Sorting the toybox
Ages 3–5The big idea
Sorting means putting things that share something in common into the same group.
Think of it like sorting a messy toybox into piles: A jumbled toybox becomes easy to understand once you separate it into piles that each share something, like color or type.
Make the piles
You have a mixed pile of toys or objects. Pick one thing they could share, like color, and put every object that shares it into one pile. Keep going until every object has a pile.
👉 Sort a small pile of objects into groups by one rule you choose, like color or shape.
