Sharing fairly

Grades 3–4

The big idea

Division splits an amount into equal shares so it's fair for everyone.

Think of it like sharing candy so nobody cries: 12 candies for 3 friends: deal them out one at a time until they're gone, and each fair share is the answer.

Deal it out

You have 12 candies and 3 friends. Deal one to each, around and around, until none are left. Count one friend's pile: 4. That's everyone's fair share.

πŸ‘‰ Share 12 candies onto 3 plates, one at a time. How many on each plate?
